Size of longboard

Postby greypump » Fri Oct 03, 2008 8:47 am

Once I've done a bit of saving I reckon it will be time to splash out on a new longboard. After something which is probably an all rounder - can use in crappy summer days (UK) and in medium surf - if I get better then maybe in some bigger stuff. Want to be able to give noseriding a go but also being able to simply speed down the line - reckon I'll need slight nose rocker. I'm near to 6ft tall and getting near 14 stone (190 lbs). I'm never going to be a superstar at 42 but don;t want something I will get bored of.

Any recommendations on boards and length - was thinking 9ft 2 maybe and any thoughts on whether it is worth getting volan glassing (and what weight?)

Thanks

9 foot carbon fiber built by me, with a little more weight than you might think for a really satisfying ride

:D You ain’t gonna be a pro so :-
Shape – probably a pin tail, wideish semi gun, with a 9 1/2 inch single fin  and whatever else you need / want :P

Why ?

I have a board like this and I will use it as the shape - it rides fast as hell, and is nose-rideable if you have the nerve to get up there !

Wonderful being up front hanging ten while cruising fast down the line.

Nose-riders can be slow and twitchy :x – this type will have you going for max speed every time

(sorry mods – a blatant tout to make both a buck and a very happy surfer  )

EDIT:-
And a free service after 12 months ( dings fins and finish - e&oe, blah).

Lol greypump : it's a good shape actually.

I found my classic longboard to be a bit wishy washy, like surfing a tray sort of thing (not really but you know what I mean).

This semi gun shape holds better and allows you to trim the board for proper down the line surfing (like the fall line if you ski).

Many surfers struggle because they do not know how to surf down the line - this gets your speed up allowing some attempt at a maneuver.

Down the line first, then start to move about the wave- and this board will do that for you almost ! ( I am laughing typing this – another tout for a buck, but with complimentary advice ).
