1 week end November - any recommendations?

Postby bealobo » Thu Sep 25, 2008 10:51 pm

Hello!

first post, first question :)

I'm in LA and I'm a beginner surfer, I have 1 week to surf at the end of November. I really want to spend it surfing like mad, it's possible that after that week I won't see any wave for some time so that's why.

Since I'm not from USA I have thought on these possibilities:
- California. Going to San Diego or travel around. How is the end of November here?
- SurfCamp in central america. This is very convenient, it's my language, it's cheap and it's awesome. I already know Guatemala so I was thinking about Costa Rica or Panama. BUT I don't know if it worth it for just a week.
- Hawaii. I'd love to go there but it's obviously more expensive and again, just one week.

What do you recommend me?
Thanks a lot!

Hey,

If you only have 1 week and it's in late November, I'm afraid you don't have much choice. I think the water in the Pacific ocean will be cold in California area. But I think the more South you go (Baja, Mexico), the warmer the water should be, not by much, but warmer. Where are you from anyway?

November is one of the best months in the Dominican Republic (North Coast). The best and most consistant spot is called Encuentro near Cabarete.
You will find a couple of different breaks, suited for beginners and also experienced surfers. From waist to double overhead in November.
The atmosphere is very relaxed and there is no localism. People are friendly and willing to help.
Cabarete is a fun town with mainly young active people. Nightlife is excellent and you will find lot's of inexpensive places for food.
Next to the surfing there are tons of thing to do.
We offer for example; Atv trips. scooter rental, Cascading, Mountainbiking. You can also do Motocross, Wakeboarding, Kitesurfing etc.....

I am from origin Dutch and the water is freezing cold there. Only compared to that it's heaven here. NO WETSUIT

:D

Btw, I surfed once in Tarifa (south of Spain) and had a great time.

Thanks, sounds good.
As I´ll already have 2 weeks for surfing in California, I might go somewhere anyway.
DR sounds really good, thanks for the tip.

All of our quests are really enthusiastic and lot of them came back already twice or more. People are friendly here and life is cheap. Surf is excellent in the winter and water is warm. What else can you wish more....
If you need more info about flights etc let me know.
