Miami surf trip

Postby artalus » Fri Dec 24, 2004 12:35 am

Hi am going to Miami for a week in the new year and thinking of checking out South Beach area. Can anyone recommend any spots? Also is it worth hiring a car and what sort of water temp will it be?

Thanks guys...

Thats a shame, I going there anyway and was hoping there would at least be a 3-4 ft wave there. At least it will be good and sunny.

Is this what you mean by a small bump? or does it get a lot worse?

South Beach . . .

Postby Stormfront » Mon Jan 10, 2005 9:18 pm

I surfed South Beach, all the way south, between the pier(if it's still there) and the jetty from '76 through '79 while I was in school there. Small fun surf, waist to chest-high mostly, best fall to winter. Never anything challenging but on occasion shoulder-high sets that will surprise. Better than you might think. Be careful of man-of-wars - definite trip to the hospital.

Well I wouldnt reccomend going to Miami just for surfing but if you are there anyway like I was, I did see a few ok small clean waves around the pier at Sunny Isles (north of south beach). Definatly take your own board as to hire a foamy cost $50 a day which sucks. I did check out Cocoa beach but the hurricanes have moved a lot of sand and the break is really messy.
Basically get a car and bring your board with you if you want to get some waves. Also check out Sebastion inlet a few hundred miles north.
At least i managed to get a few rides and a tan and experience surfing without a wetsuit.
