Where to go this Sunday?

Postby rawsurf » Wed Sep 10, 2008 8:35 am

Hi Everyone,

Living in Stafford, UK - which is basically the furthest place you can get from the coast in this country - I charged myself with a challenge - surf at least once a month through 2008.

Now September is the only month that I will not be spending at least a weekend by the ocean - so where is best spot to go this weekend - anyone got any recomendations?

I am looking to leave home early doors on Sunday (05:00am) and 2.5 hours should get me to Devon or South Wales or Mid Wales or North Wales - not sure about the UK east coast as I have never surfed over there - where am I likely to find a decent ridable wave... (Just noticed that there is a Christian Surf comp on in Croyde - so does that mean it will be super busy?)

Any advice gratefully received - Thanks

Southwales is your nearest bet but winds looking iffy. The approaching system is too far north to make much of Wales do anything.

Eastcoast will have a wave but winds all over it.

Hi Northswell, how's it going? I reckon I may end up driving a little further like maybe Saltburn? Wind is on it but watched the swell increase all week for Scabs. May see you?

Phew - thats better...

Will probably head for the west - whether that be South Wales or North Devon - not too much in it from Staffor - maybe an hour here or there...

Thanks for the advice

Rawsurf,

I'm based in Burton (10-20 minutes away) and try to get out as much as possible, just wondered whether you wanted to carshare and keep an eye on each other when out in unfamiliar surf? Save fuel and each others lives (potentially!)

Sorry to seem a bit "coming on strong" but I don't know anyone who surfs and lives anywhere near me!

Went to Saunton on Sat. Glorious little 1.5 to 2ft waves. Was in water a total of 6 hours and could barely drive home coz my shoulders were so sore.

The best summer day we had this year and I learnt so much on my 8' minimal as I ahd dozens of rides.
