Guides on Bali/Lombok, Flights

Postby shakeit » Wed Sep 10, 2008 9:44 am

Hi Everyone

I will be on Bali and Lombok in October and want to find out how to get best a local guide.

We want to make the best out of the trip and do not like to jump into the water just based on internet spot guides. Option would be to book a surfcamp for the first week, but this seems to be expensive as we do not require classes and believe a nice accomondation can be found cheaper as well.

Can someone say what is the best way to find a local guide (incl. transportation) around Seminyak/South Lombok? What would be a fair price/day?

We want to fly from Bali to Lombok - how shall one book a flight at best? We heared that this should be chaper when done locally, than booked over the internet in advance. Are there travel agencies in Kuta or is this done directly at the airport? Do they transport surf equipment? Anyone who did this already and can share experiences?

Any recommondations for good accomondation near beachbreaks?

Thank you so much for your answers/suggestions!

Hey Shakeit,

If you already know how to surf, then just go to Bali, no need for surfcamp. If you can tell me how much your budget for accomodation, I can help you get good, clean hotels around Bali. I don't know where you'll be flying from, but when you do arrive, please have exact amount of money (US$25) for your visa on arrival at the airport. And you can search cheap domestic flight in Indonesia at Lion Air website at www.lionair.co.id I know this airline makes a non stop flight from Bali to Mataram (Lombok). I have more info but must gather them first and please help me be more specific on what info you need, so I can help you better.

Hi shakeit,

It's really easy to book flights- either look on the internet at merpati or lion air sites or when you get to kuta there's a million and one travel agents that will arrange your travel for you.

I'm not sure about surf guides in bali but in south lombok (kuta) you can go into Kimen surf shop and the guys there will guide you.

By the way, south lombok is one of the most beautiful parts of the world i've ever seen. expect mountainous scenic roads (low quality), palm trees, white sandy beaches that go for miles with nobody on them, a really chilled out vibe and not many crowds. living is cheap (far cheaper than bali) and nice. Check out the surf spot at Mawi- it is a really fun wave and the scenery is ridiculous!

have fun!
