Which board do I choose!?!? Does Becker LC-3 work?

Postby brad.gp » Tue Aug 19, 2008 6:56 pm

Hey everyone,

I live in SoCal and I've learned to surf on a 7'2 GUN. I've gotten pretty good at it but as you all know, "Guns aren't meant for SoCal!" I'm looking to get a longboard/funboard that is around 8' for some longer rides but still trying to maintain the flexibility, maneuverability, and speed. I'm 5'7" and weigh 140lbs.

I've searched endlessly and am wondering what everyone thinks about the Becker LC-3? The pricing is a little above my budget, but I figure I'll have this board for the next 10 years or more. Has anybody had problems with Becker boards?

What about Channel Island's Waterhog? It's really expensive and pretty much out of my budget, but is there a significant difference between the Waterhog and the Becker LC-3?

If both of these suck for any reason, what would be some alternatives?

Lastly, is it that big of a difference if I get fiberglass instead of epoxy?

Thank you all for your help!!!

i'm about your size, and when i go with funboards it's around 7'3" size. longboards, i could care less. you could probably go smaller than the 8' and still maintain ease of paddling and wave catching. but that also depends on your fitness level. if you're gonna buy a board, always check out the local shops and shapers and see what they can do for you first

The Becker LC-3 is a great all around board.I had one but an Ex Girlfriend stole it when we broke up. You could go shorter maybe 6-10 or 7 ft max for your size and weight. I'm 6ft 200lbs and I was riding a 7-6 LC3. I had just progressed to something smaller then a longboard and this board was a lot of fun.
