yeah quiet bad, shame as he was so young, there off to kill the shark and the are rare so dont know if they should kill it or not, the sea is its home it doesnt know any better what do you guys think?

I don't think it should be killed. But that's how humans are. We go into other animal's domains and think we have the right to control life out there. Our home is on the land, a shark's is in the water. If we go in the water, we should respect and accept that we are in someone else's territory.

when u go into the ocean, u become part of the food chain in it. they shouldnt kill the shark, its just doing what it does to survive. we kill way more of them than they do us.

This is a difficult one. I know that I wouldn't want any shark that happened to bite or kill me, to be hunted down and executed. I'm sure that almost all surfers would say the same, because we all love the ocean and respect everything in it.

However... am i right in thinking that a shark could adopt an area as a regular feeding ground? In other words if the shark is not hunted down, it may attack again in the same way. If that is true, then I think killing the shark is probably better than a few dead tourists or surfers.

Its a tricky one!

i think its wrong if i was killed by a white shark or any shark i wouldnt want it hunted it doesnt know what its done wrong its only natural but i guess there worried that it now has a taste of human flesh, but hey what do you expect when it seems to be the craze these days to dangle us over the sides of boats in cages so they can take a good look at us and become comfortable in the water with us

Yes, that's very true.

Actually I must admit I went for the experience last year. A place just outside of Cape Town. It was an incredible experience, all rather surreal.
First of all it should be noted that the cage is not a steel barred cage but made from what I can only explain as "wire mesh".
Also the shark was relatively placid, not what I expected at all. The Great White Shark I saw was about 10 feet long and it swam within a foot of the cage. Pretty awesome, but it didnt really get fired up. Infact it didnt seem interested in my presence at all, it just wanted the bits of dead shark that they were throwing in from the boat above.

Im sure about the ethics of it all, but it was pretty cool to do.

I don't think the shark should be killed; we should respect the animal's territory and if you go out and you know there are sharks there, it's yourself to blame. Even so, poor guy! :cry:

D'ya think he knew it was sharky waters??

Plus the fact that the shark is doing what it's instinct is telling it. And it's natural; we should really respect that. Plus we kill so many more of them than they do us, as rightly said before.

dude, theres not a place that isnt "sharky" unless u live somewhere where its so cold that nothing could survive in it. if u taste the water and its salty, then u know theres sharks nearby

On a similar note. There was a tiger that was loose wondering around a neighborhood in L.A. They shot and killed it. The wildlife experts said they didn't shoot it with a tranquilizer becuase it was an immediate threat to humans, which is BS because there wasn't anyone around.

I hate how humans think they own everything sometimes. A heavy tranquilizer would have taken the things down quickly, then they could have transported it into the wild, or atleast safe captivity till it could be reaclimated into the wild.

well when you got to rember when you go surfing or do any water sport in countrys like south africa NZ oz etc your no longer top of the food chain

i have heard they are having a great results with these shark shileds that send radio signals out that drive away sharks but there big and bulky and i wouldnt want to surf with one round my ankle

Ya, Shark pods are good for whoever is wearing them, but tests have shown that they attract sharks to the area. Whoever is wearing them is safe, but if others in the area arent, theyre screwed haha. Still a good idea though.
