How about instead of raising your hopes to being a rich pro, lower your taste for expensive things, move to a cheap third world country and just chill.

I'm not looking to be a rich pro at all. I am looking at being really good at what I like and maybe compete anywhere and you know, and do very good. I doubt I can be like any guy that appears in quicksilver youing guns and whatnot. But I want to get as closer as I can and be able to go to surf to all those beautiful places. :)

I don't know of anyone who never wanted to partake in competition. It may not suite everyone, but I'm sure it comes across everyones mind. Read up Slater's bio and you'll see he was BORN a surfer. I'm not saying starting later is bad, I started surfing at 18. It's just some people have that ancient hawaiian nalu gene  . I've lived here in Oahu for over a year. In before hawaiisucksexceptsurf, but HI isn't exactly paradise. HEAVY traffic problems coupled with poorly maintained roads (come back in 50 years when they finally decide to build the rail), locals who hate everyone caucasian, and iffy education quality. You can't get better surf than here though.

Don't forget high drug, crime, poverty, and low dispersion of wealth! Did I mention horrible economy?

Hawaii has suffered from the typical problems that any strictly tourist area gets.
