Non driver (possibly a silly question)

Postby veganwarrior » Mon Aug 11, 2008 6:41 pm

Ok so I don't drive so to get to a surf spot i would need to get a couple of trains and a bus (and possibly a taxi lol) which is all good but once i get to the beach where do i put my bag n stuff, when i'm out in the water? and where do i change into a wetsuit. I know, these are a bit daft question but having never surfed before these questions seem really important lol

Thanks everyone :D

Change anywhere you like.... Leave your stuff on the beach and/or take aqua pac for your valuables!

See if you can find someone who surfs in your area that drives to share fuel costs with.

Eh, surfing and driving go hand in hand. Leaving your stuff on the beach is OK if some friends keep an eye on it, but it's generally not a good idea. A board bag and ANYTHING of value is easy pickings for a pikey. My best advice: I would hitch a ride with someone if you absolutely cannot drive.

ive never had issues leaving things on the beach just as long as you dont leave anything valuble. a boardbag is a big cumbersome thing to nick so i wouldnt worry too much about that.

I left my favorite reefs on the beach but like to tell my self they were stolen

I'm still kickin' myself. Can't find my damn Teva's either........

Oh yeah the no car thing. Find a friend, definitely, it will make everything better. Also, I have seen someone make a sorta slip on vest thing that comes to his knees (like a buttonless night gown for girls or something?) out of towels that he changes into/out of his wetsuit in. Covers your bits and then dries you off.

this might be the solution if you really can't find a car. just don't bring your board bag.

Ah a Scottish lass! Ulster gretings to you!

Christ.. the breaks you've got on the NW coast there there won't be anyone about to see you get changed ;) but seriously, just wear your kini there then its just a case of wiping on your suit when you arrive. As for after, big towel does the job no?

There are a few NE peeps about in the UK forums, also you might want to look into any cubs or groups in Scotland, ideal to find people to share lifts with. The East coast peeps re forever shooting up and down. if your in the city or town there HAS to be someone else who surfs, finding someone at the same skill level as you is best.

My fiance uses one of these, mentioned further up the thread: http://www.surfstation.co.uk/acatalog/Robie_Robes_Ultimate_Beach_Towel.html

When the Welsh sleet is blowing sideways i even use it!

man you guys really have an open mind. Just drive... i dont even have a license and i drive to all beaches :) i got pulled over once too but they let me go cause i was in a bathing suit and looked pretty. So i'd like to think. haha
Look just bring a raggity sack, and dig a hole and over it half way and then set your towel over it.. that way all your belongins will be hidden at least.
