Don't know whether it's just me but the Starting Line are great pre surf music. Listen to their old album 'say it like you mean it'.

For a great "chill" song, I love Rogue Wave's song "California".

Hey man,

I've been listening to Slightly Stoopid's new album. It's dope. I'm sure you can preview some of the songs on their myspace before buying the album.

Depends on the kind of mood you are creating. For the ultimate "say hello to death" mood, check out Riding Giants' sections about Mavericks with Alice in Chains (Them Bones) and Pearl Jam (Go).

Beach boys collection.

They have a lot of songs about surfing

i went down with something to get me moving:

MGMT - Fated to pretend
aphex twin - come to daddy
Radiohead - Idioteque
Beastie Boys - Sabotage

came back home with a more mellow vibe
Vampire Weekend
Bedouin Soundclash
bit of Marley
ect

worked a treat

Excellent start! I've downloaded onto my I-Pod a few months ago, that MGMT song you mentined which I really like (don't care for other MGMT songs I've heard). Also I love the song "A-Punk" by Vampire Weekend. It reminds me a little of old Peter Gabriel and also has a ska rhytmn to the song (i.e the Skunks, Drop-Kick Murphys etc). Good stuff!!!!

Never can go wrong with Marley....eternally awesome!

For shredding (skate or surfing) I like old school Metallica "Damage Inc." and "I'm a Loser" by the Descendents.

Nothing like having a nice session while listening to some roots reggae. The music litterally put me in a different state, where I feel as if I'm one w/ the waves.

Time to Pretend? That's a great track, if it's the one you mean:
