w00p! finally got in again today, feels like months since the last time I got wet. Had a good sesh at Croyde, glad i got there early and sufred the last 3 hours of the dropping tide, cos just after it turned the winds shifted so that they had just enough west in em to make it a choppy mess.

Caught some nice ones, got worked a few times, my lefts are getting better but my rights are still horrible.

Think I might head down to Kernow tomorrow 8)

Ouch.
A day of stupidly late drop shenanigans and some cracking wipeouts. Gonna hurt tomorrow...

A top day's surfing on the south coast of NSW. 8)

huge leap forward

Postby garbarrage » Mon Jul 07, 2008 4:21 pm

had an amazing weekend - went away with a bunch of french guys and was shocked at how much stoke they had - was incredible...
:D
arrived at the beach to find really sloppy waves, stuff i recently would have not bothered with... not so the Frenchies... they all just shrugged "c'est la vie" and in they went and were as happy as the most epic of epic days... was infectious and i was soon on the same buzz as the rest of them... really glad i went out too. feel like i progressed about 3 steps in those few sessions.

brought out the longboard cos didn't want to have to chase peaks in the disorganised chaos the way i would have on the shorty despite the extra work required. felt quite fit anyway!

i've gotten to the stage now where i can catch a wave bottom turn, ride the line... pretty consistently (still a bit weak on my backhand). don't know what happened yesterday.. like something just clicked. started riding higher on the wave after take off, and driving the board from the tail... not through any conscious strategy... just started doing it. was doing turns i'd never thought i was capable of before (probably nothing really fancy tho it felt like that to me), but was able to use my new found ability to find real power in the wave.... get longer rides, and twist and turn around my mates paddling out where i'd normally have to ditch so i don't crash into them.

no real point to all this... just been thinkin about it all day and so stoked that i just had to tell someone

it really was something special how infectious it was.... 6 of us out all together... only a couple of "strangers" out..
if i was out with the guys i normally surf with the other surfers may have been a little intimidated by our shenanigans.... but it wasn't long before everyone was in on the buzz...

everyone including strangers egging each other on to waves and having a laugh... and callin waves for people better positioned.. no dropping in... no snakin... just fun the way its meant to be!!

Been it at bournemouth this week and caught a few after work. Soooo busy at the one peak I mucked around in the shallows. Swapped board for sponge to play around in the shore dump, much fun :)

Brrrrr!
It was actually a bit chilly today!

Water was nice and warm though. Surfed a small left point break today. A nice new spot to add to my mental surf map :D

Got a very unusual session in today for this area---actual waves!

Dropped in on a couple head high ones, I think I surfed better than I ever have, it was so nice not being worried about speed because the wave is so small, haha.

I was tired of dealing with the 150+ people in the same spot, so I tried to find another place. Parking was horrible today so it pretty much eliminated all but a couple spots. I decided to paddle out for the second time up the coast a bit, where it was smaller, choppier, really strange currents going on, and closing out. Wooo!

Anyways, got some non-close outs up there and some decent rides, till I did one dumb-ass drop on a closing out snake set wave, and got thrown around for a bit. I just chilled like I always do till I surfaced, but I guess another wave broke on my head right before I got to the surface, and it freaked me out and I did something to my knee. Heard a pop, it hurts now.

So worth it!

A most excellent session lastnight :) As the tide filled the swell kicked in and set of the boulder reef. Soild 3-4ft rolling down the line. Swells back for the foreseeable future at last.

Another day and the peek of the swell. Pushed 4-6ft with lovely smackable sections today over the boulder reef. Chances were some of the other gems were working but it was too good to pass it up today. Wind was a wisping sw. near perfect. shame the tide filled so quick!

Will be out 1st thing tomorrow for sure :)

Messy and big on the east coast today but got in and messed around and actually had two good little rides, one of them almost a semi green wave :D Not long till the move south greatly increases my water time - bring it on!
