Yes, the sport surfing is the only sport there is that has its own music.
There is a good trivia question for you.

It is generally instrumental surf music. I know of a band that play super surf music. The old traditional music of the 60's.

some bloody good artists been mentioned here....the quality of the recommendations means im likley to check out all the ones i dont.

for my the term surf music , when used in its traditional sense..means a specific offshoot of rock and roll often instrumental and mainly using the traditions drums, bass, rythem guitar, lead guitar setup. the characteristic sound was created using the earliest compressor effects to make a tight precussive sound, along with "slap back echo" spring reverb units...to echo what was said before...Dick Dale would be a good example of the sound im talking about.

There's been several posts on the topic.

Just my opinion but I think to truly get classified as "surf music" you need to fit into one of the following criteria, otherwise almost anything could fall into surf music category:
1) Members of the band/singer etc are avid surfers or come out of a surfing culture and lifestyle growing up (Perry Ferrell, Jimmy Buffet, Jack Johnson, Eddie Veder
2) Many song lyrics from the artist involve the ocean, surfing, surfing lifestyle etc. (BeachBoys etc.)
3) Name of the band is "surfing influenced"...i.e. Rogue Wave, the Kooks, Butthole surfers etc.

Everything else falls into the grey area and open to interpretation.
