Yet another first time buyer question....

Postby Shwa » Wed Jun 11, 2008 4:14 pm

So here’s the deal:

I’ve got a lead on a 9’ 3” Rip Curl High performance longboard – used 4 times @ $700 even (no tax).

Or

I’ve got another lead on an 8’ 4” Blue (Global Surf industries) mini-mal – brand new @ $475 plus tax ($550).

Any thoughts. I’m 5’ 10” about 185 – 190 lbs. Beginer surfer. I surf a few times a year, but I’m hoping once I buy a board I’ll be going more often. I live in Vancouver, BC.

Thanks.

buy second hand something in the cheaper range that unless you can afford squirting $500+ on a board you might outgrow or change direction

You don't need a high performance board. You do need a long board between 9ft and 9ft 4in long that has a thickness of 2 5/8in or greater.

...and, yes. Buy it used and save a lot of money. Don't forget to get a sock or day bag - also used.
