RECENT TRIP- DONT FLY UNITED!!!!!

Postby twodogss » Sun Jun 08, 2008 10:46 pm

Just wanted to give every one a heads up. I live on the east coast and recently
took a trip to san diego, then to hawaii. When i left from SD to go to HAwaii
the lady at the UNited Airlines baggage counter informed me that starting may
5th United changed their baggage policy (thats code for "we're getting
stingy"). She charged me 100 dollars PER surfboard (they were all in one bag)
and then another hundred for my bag being overweight. yes thats right folks a
total of 500 dollars to get my boards from san diego to hawaii. my friends who
took the same trip as me, but with hawaiian airlines only got charged 80. just
wanted to let every one know in case they are flying united sometime soon,
because this charge almost ruined my trip.

Yep hawaiian airline all the way. There's a reason why they are called hawaiian airline instead of United lol.

twodogs,
Thank you for sharing this highly useful information. It is a damn shame you had to pay so much to get your boards to HI.

Has anyone flown with American Airlines? I need to take one board from London to Costa Rica between Christmas and New Years as cheap as possible and they seem like the best option (after Continental, but they won't take my board no matter how much extra I pay them :x )

Thanks!

Waterlily, don't fly with continental they are completely oblivious to any form of communication, left us hanging in New York for 5 hours with the answer "it's going to be 30 mins"- use them at your risk!

never bring your board, just buy one here and sell it when youre done. could end up costing you 0-40 dollars depending how rushed you are to sell it..
