Does shortboarding get harder as you get older?

Just goes to show ya, generalizations are generally wrong. There's always an exception.

i just got worse and worse back pains as i aged and went slowly up from 6'3" to 7 foot, then 8 foot, then 8'6" etc. and now i'm on a 9'3" and its fabulous. you can surf more often only smaller days when shortboards can't catch waves. It's a way of keeping wet despite getting on. I'm 55.

At 15, go both.

Should be days you can rip on a shorty and days you can cruise on a longboard.

This discussion reminds me of the short vs longboard story found in the book IN SERACH OF CAPTAIN ZERO. Tee Hee

if i was 15 i'd go for both too. I reckon a 7'6" assuming you are average height weight etc. would be too long for a short board. You would need to go around the 6'6" mark depending on what suits. And long boards are anything over 9'. Both heaps of fun, but, yeah, go for both for sure at your age. cheers. good luck in the surf.

43 and on a 6`8" most of the time, a 7`6" mal on small days. Yes it gets harder to paddle and catch waves as you get older, same as any sport.
