my round the world trip!!!

Postby allyoz » Thu May 22, 2008 4:22 pm

Right, i booked my rtw trip a few weeks back and it goes a little something like this:

30th november 2008
london-miami (2 weeks)
hawaii (honolulu) (3 weeks) for christmas, new year, and my friends 21st birthday! sick eh? oh and the pipe masters happens to be on!!! didn't plan that honest
fiji (2 weeks)
new zealand (3 months)
australia (6 months) working, kind of
bali-bangkok overland (1 month)

will be buying a camper in australia and either buy/rent one in n.z

so if anyone lives in any of these places and fancies meeting up to go for a surf that'd be pretty rad, oh and i'll be teaching my friend to surf along the way, but when it's big she can take pictures! sorted
plus any spare accomodation/local knowledge would be muchos appreciated. only downside is that the first leg of my trip london-miami is with British Airways! as you all know, they've banned surfboards and i can't fly with any other airline on this bit! anyone know if there's a way round this apart from couriering the board over seperately? otherwise i'll be looking at buying a board in miami or hawaii? any advice...?

right i've said enough, thanks in advance

Very jealous! :-) Do you have accomodations booked in the States and Indo? If in the budget, buying boards in FL or HI sounds like a plan as surfers can never have too many boards.

Here's the Tokoro website if you want to custom order a board before coming to Hawaii:
http://www.tokorosurfboards.com/
Wade has shaped for Andy Irons, Sunny Garcia, Joel Parkinson, Mick Fanning, Jamie O'brien, Occy, Manoa Drollet, Jesse Merle-Jones, etc...

I can probably sort you out with a nice studio apartment in NZ if you need a shower and to escape from the sandflies.

Sounds like a sick trip.

Christchurch on the sunny  south island. Got a nice place near the beach, more than happy to show you a few of the local spots.

I grew up in Brighton, moved to NZ 4 1/2 years ago. Did a couple of trips round NZ in tent/van before coming here. There's some great spots, and loads of places you can camp for free, but it does get a bit harsh/smelly after 3 or 4 months of living feral!

4 - 6 ft and offshore today. Shame it's trying to snow, and I've lost my wetsuit gloves.

I've been putting £80 a month away since 1992 into some kind of savings pension scheme for my retirement.

When I took the policy out they forecast it was going to be worth £300,000 by the time I reach 65.

Recently they told me, due to the economy being sh*t for the past few years and getting worse, it was only going to be worth between £80-100,000, so I decided to cash it in and its worth £22,000!!!

So if you think that by putting a very small amount of money away (£20 a week) you can have the trip of a lifetime.

You've just got to put it away and forget about it.

Bali here I come!!!

Alloyz.........sounds like a great trip.

I wouldnt worry about shipping a board to the US. I'm sure you'll be able to pick up a bargain in Florida

Also the last bit Bali- Bangkok............I reckon after leaving the Aussie winter and cold water, you'll want to spend that whole month in Bali, surfing nice warm water and then maybe get a flight direct to Bangkok because you could spend 2 or 3 months doing that overland bit and still not see everything.

But that's over a year away and you'll have loads of time to decide what to do

have a great trip

I'm envious. How much will all this cost? (I understand how inappropriate this question is but this is amazing and I think I would like to do something like this one day) :)

Hey Alloyz,

Wow! What a plan. Next year, when you finally made it to Bali/Indonesia, post a message here. I can hook you up with good cheap accomodations and good places to surf.

Enjoy!!
