August - Surf in/near of Barcelona?

Postby Don_Alessandro » Thu May 15, 2008 6:09 pm

Hi again guys! :D Some of you might have read my 'July - 10day Surftrip to Biaritz via Bordeaux' post; and I just found out that I am going to Barcelona in the middle of august aswell(woohoo!!) So, I got some questions to anyone who might have knowledge with this area.

First of all, is it possible to SURF here? I want to surf!! ;D If so, how is the surf in august? And is it far from Barcelona city?

I am staying pretty central in Barcelona city.

Have a great day! Appreciate any feedback!

Peace, love and happiness!

Barcelona is on the 'wrong' side of spain/basque region, and the 'wrong' side of the meditteranean - so very unlikely you'll get any waves :?

There are a couple of surfable spots around barcelona - including, if I remember rightly, a break right in front of las playas, but its a bit close to the docks for my liking.

August is about the flattest month. You'll almost certainly get no waves or short period windchop. But there's always the possibility of getting lucky.

very average and very slack however they are waves never the ess. Your highly unlikely to get anything there in August but with the nature of the Med swells who knows!
I lucked in when I was there a few years back and befor ei was due to travel there was a forest system due to pass across the middle of the MEd. Took my kit just in cse and was bless with 2-3ft on the city beaches.
Just to the north the setup as looked way better with groynes and stronger sand bnks to be found.

So moral of the story.. if taking your kit isn't an issue then take it!

Thanks for the replies drowningbitbybit and PapaW! Appreciate it! :D We're renting a car, so spots near of Barcelona are also reachable.

PapaW: You mentioned 2-3ft on the city beaches? At what time of year?

PS! I saw some videos on youtube, there was one named 'Jordi a la Platja', Barcelona 16 July 2007. Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4RY9xwxn ... re=related

The waves are pretty small, but small waves are better than no waves right! :D Do you guys know if this spot is -in- Barcelona, or close of?
