Postby J-B » Tue Apr 08, 2008 8:12 pm

Im thinking about getting a new longboard made... around 12 foot

Was thinking bout going with nineplus, custard point or gulfstream. I dont really have any experiance with UK shapers

I've been riding Custard Point boards since the 1980's. Can't fault them IMO. I may even fly from NZ to the UK one of these days to pick up a couple more when the need arises. Tim Mellors is a great shaper.

If Santa Cruz, Califorina, is not out of your geographic range, get a Freeline long board. I absolutely love mine!!

lol just a bit. Dont mind the price though for quality. And you do get waves down here... not the best but its a wave!

Just that my normal boards a 9 foot, i ride a 10'2'' southpoint whenever i can get my hands on one.... but they all just feel a lil.... unsatisfying. Know what i mean?

been looking at nineplus lately though, torn between custard point an nineplus.

ah well :D

I've heard the Southpoint boards can have durability issues. Something to consider since you'll be hard on your board as a beginner.

For a custom longboard i reccomend all my clients to go to Rick Ferguson out of Santa Cruz. The guy has worked with some of the best shapers around and has tons of templates to chose from. John Mel and Doug Haut are also master longboard shapers.

Hey Shacked! Is Chris P writing your posts? Tell him that following the repairs he made on my Freeline long board, I'm simply gliding across the water's surface. It feels just like skates on ice. Chris gave my board some mojo!

Try Clicky (Paul) at Lazicka Surf Designs (LSD). He's a sight closer than the US shapers people are pointing you at and his prices are really good - as are his boards!

He shaped my first board and I still love it and now ride it exclusively (having played with others over the past few years) - it's a 9'3" cruiser and was perfect for me as a novice, being really stable, easy to paddle, etc - and now I've progressed the board is really coming into it's own, turning really well whilst still being pretty forgiving.

I'll be getting a new board off him soon now I reckon I can handle a flatter rocker (want a pin tail too) .........

Your right they used to. Thankfully they have improved their range somewhat and down to durability issues, it shouldnt be a problem as any surfer who cares about theyre board will take care not to damage it.

Not so much of a beginner by the way

Past that thanks for your help guys, ive ended up building my own lol :D
