Falmouth isn't too bad. Pretty flat unless there's a good onshore wind. However, my cousin does swear by Gyllingvase beach (Falmouth). Portreath (further down than newquay) is a personal fave. It's a pretty small beach but the surf is always tremendous. It has a tendancy to barrel. All the guys there are really friendly, especially the dudes from the SLSC. Perranporth is pretty easy to get to on almost any bus in Cornwall and the drivers are usually ok with you taking a board on as long as it's not too busy. Really nice beach and the waves are almost as nice as 'treath.
May even see you there :D

Or you could try Fistral, but some of the locals are a bit funny. If so just go to Newquay Bay and try there. There's also Watergate bay a bit further up.

On the South coast, near Torpoint is my old haunt, Whitsand bay. Good long beach with plenty of space, but you need to surf with a couple of mates here. Never go in by yourself.
