Peace be with him. Summers coming would that mean sharks are coming closer to shore after fish ?. Not being funny but why don`t sharks finish what they start ?.

becasue sharks arent after humans were too boney they only mistake us for food. not that it makes a huge amount of differnce if it happens too you

A few reasons why. First off, we're not on their menu. If sharks were truly trying to hunt humans then there would be a thousand times more attacks and fatalities on surfers. It really is a case of mistaken identity. Sharks are always around. Also, attacks don't usually last longer then a bite or two, because the way they hunt is to attack through suprise with a fatal bite, then to leave the scene in order for the victim to bleed to death. Sharks don't want to get injured pursuing an animal that is fighting for its life.

This really is a tragedy. But let's just keep this in perspective. Sharks do what comes natural to them. This is their environment. It's a risk that all of us ocean-goers take. No need for the tendency of shark animosity that comes out of the publicity of such events.

Just wondering, do sharks attack based on scent or sight? If its sight, why the "bleep" do they make wetsuits black like a seal?

Sharks use scent to hunt, but their actual attack is based on movements they pick up. They probably associate these movements around the water w/ their prey.

I think they'll attack you regardless of what color wetsuit you're wearing

Sharks don't just use scent and sight (bad sight on a shark is a misnomer, they average about 25m seeing distance, and their night vision is awesome), but they use all scences, including detecting the faintest of electrical pulses being emitted from living creatures with a heartbeat.

all these shark attacks kinda freak me out.. i know that the chances are VERY little.. almost none.. but it still gets me thinking, especially when i was past the break and sitting on by board (i can do it better now .. thanks for all the advice) like... today a piece of seaweed brushed against my leg and it made me "uneasy" .

I'm always paranoid during the first paddle out at the beginning of a session, but all fears go away once I catch that first wave.

climate change? they killed a MASSIVE great white off the coast of seattle not too long ago, apparently it followed an el nino current the whole way up. its a shame to see the greatest predator ever get killed just because the guys wanna show off, so ridiculous. sharks make all other species evolve!!

have you seen the movie "sharkwater?" great film, covers everything about sharks and how they hunt etc, and the producer proved that if u just keep your heart rate low, they can approach you and be gentle, where if u are excited, they get antsy and freak out, either attacking or retreating. but like someone just said, they realize we arent on their menu, and dont want any more human flesh because humans arent naturally their prey.
