What is your preference?

Just trying to spark some conversation here and I am curious.

Most of us will surf short boards and long boards and that typically depends on the conditions in the water.

But if you could pick the day.. would you prefer perfect long board conditions or perfect short board conditions?

Personally I would prefer perfect long boarding conditions.. not because its easier but because I enjoy the cruising/chill aspect of it. Brings a lot of peace to me. So I end up over all enjoying a nice long board day more.

What about you guys? What do you prefer? Why?

shortboarding all the way no contest + i cant longboard for sh*t nor do i own a longboard anymore :lol:

But nah give me crystal smooth barreling rights with enough face to work with slight offhore winds and few people out say a decent 4-6ft solid :bow:

if i had that everyday it'd be paradise on earth :lol:

I just love the feel of shortboarding ease of turning and multitude of manevours i still cant do but would like to attempt em in perfect conditions

I would prefer a perfect 4'-7' day, rights and lefts. Get some nice 'A' frames coming in. While I can long board I prefer short boarding as I really like doing hitts off of the lip and quick snappy moves.
But it's not like you would here me complain if I had a perfect day for either.

I often ask myself this question or a slightly different question actually. Which do i prefer kitesurfing or surfing. On the whole i'd rather go surfing. However the toss up between head high and clean (my perfect surfing conditions) or double overhead with a right hand point and 25knots of very slightly cross offshore wind blowing down the wave then that would win every single time for me.

Big boy shortboarding for me. 6'5 or 6'6 es due to th eweight around 175llbs.

Never ridden owt over 7'3 so nothing about longboarding.

Hi N.S how's it going?
For me I'll let you know in a couple in a couple of weeks but I really fancy myself as a longboarder!
I have 7'6 at the moment and can get some nice cruisy rides on it, but when I get doen to Devon next Saturday my plan is to get a 9'1 or 9'6. I saw in Surfers Path this month a guy walk to the nose, turn backwards and hang his leg behind him with his arms stretched high and it just looks fantastic...love to be able to do it!
I have a 6'1 Fish but I just seem to sink it!!!

I'd love to say a perfect shortboarding day...

...BUT...

Big clean powerful swell with an offshore breeze is strictly for the big boys here, or if I can get on it, its usually just the one before its all over and Im getting smashed towards the shore.

A more mellow day means I'll get dozens of waves and feel like Ive ridden them for all they're worth, and at the end of the session it feels more satisfying.

Then again, that 'just the one' on big clean days make up some of my most treasured surfing memories :wink:

I'm kinda stuck in between, I have a 7'9 minimal and a 7'1 (Harmergeddon

) I don't see the need for me to go below 7' at the mo it's a really comfortable size.

So what cat would that go in Long or short boarding?

at the moment i'll take anything clean... keep lookin at good midweek forecasts only for the swell to die at the weekend. :bang:

generally prefer longboard conditions tho... as all attempts at shortboard conditions have have just resulted in me taking a hammering.... but still trying! feels like its all gonna come together any day now!

Might be a trick question.. but I don't think it is :twisted:

And since perfect conditions are different for long boards and short boards.. its either this or that. not both

I just enjoy the very relaxed vibe of a longboard personally.
But shortboards are definitely more fun.

This is the trick part......I think perfect is perfect short or long.....I will admit some waves are harder to surf on one or the other.....but when it is purrfect 6ft and peeling, it is still perfect regardless of board size.

I will ride a shortie @pipe and my log @2ft malibu but neither have to be perfect. What I would really like is some 6ft peelers so I could face that choice.

Much DBBB, smaller days are often far more enjoyable - easier paddle out, less sketchy take-offs, more time to enjoy the wave and try things out, rather than just hanging on for the ride.

Although likewise, some of my most vivid memories are riding seriously overhead waves (on a longboard)

A good analogy I've been told is comparing surfing to motorcycling.

Longboarding = Harley Davidson/tour biking...you like the chill, long riding, relaxing feeling of it. Generally preferred by a slightly older crowd.

Shortboarding = Crotch Rocket or motocross....Love the thrill of the quick takeoff /going from 0-60 mph in < 3 seconds. Adrenaline rush desired as well as the drive to learn crazy manuveurs and arial tricks. Generally preferred by the younger crowd.

Not an exact analogy but I thought it seemed on target.
