surfing europe

so I want to learn to surf this summer in september, but I am a complete beginner
I would really like to stay anywhere in europe, but I am not so sure if this is a good idea because of water temperature, especially at the end of september

as I am completely new, I don't need any great waves, but only something small, but therefore steadily

another question I have is it a good idea to go to a surf school longer than two days, because I am somehow sportive and suppose that surfing is more a learning by doing thing; so short does a longer surf course pays off

the places I found were ericeira, biarritz but I suppose these are the most common surf places not really suitable for beginners and Baleal, which I honestly know nothing about

so could anybody plz help me?

just let them show you the basics then try on your own, thats the best way.

I wouldn't go for Biarritz, try the spots between Hossegor and Moliets, you can find less crowded beach breaks there. If you prefer Portugal, what about Peniche (close to Baleal)? I'll be there this summer (as well as in France).

Don't worry so much about water temp, I surfed in shorts last summer and what were the wetsuits invented for?

absolutely a couple of lessons will get you going quicker.... after that its all up to you. after you've caught your first wave there won't be water cold enough in the world to stop you surfin!

Last October i was in Carrapateira in Portugal...
The water was still nice and warm, and the waves were pretty good, and we had a great surfing instructor too! You should definitely check out Portugal. I am scraping up some cash this summer to go back there next autumn! Great experience!
... and another thing, I've learned to surf (and still learning of course)this winter in Norway. The water here is about 5 degrees during winter, and the air is even colder! As long as you have a decent wetsuit you can surf in any temperature - besides, battling the whitewater keeps you warm, even on a cold winters day!

Water is at its warmest over here in September so don't worry about that.

HI.

I'm also a newbie who never surfed before. Also I'm bit old and fat. Well not so old only 28 but still fat.
I promissed to take my gf and our som (1yr) somewhere this summer and I was hoping to find some place I can try surfing as well. I have allways wanted to surf but it's allmost impossible in Finland.
I was thinking of Portugal. Maybe Ericeira or Penice. Portugal because I speak a litle portuguese and I visited Portugal in january and I liked it. I visited Ericeira one day at my trip and it looked beautifull. One of my friends lived in Penice for some time lst summer and she told me it is beautifull.

Could some one in here tell me something about the fees of surf schools in Penice and ERiceira. Allso if you have any idea about the rate of accomodation in those places that would be just super.
I assume that flying to Lisbon and travelling from there to ERiceira or Penice is the best option to travell. If you have better ideas on that. I'm all for it too...

Advice to Sadir,
don't worry about the water temperature. It will be what it will be. If you are like me, you will have so much fun you won't even notice the temp.
