Board bag sticky zip

Postby Jonah_Fro » Tue Apr 08, 2008 3:16 pm

Last time I used my board, the zip on the bag was clogged up with white cack, which I assumed was crystalised salt. After a LOT of tugging, I eventually got it open, but it destroyed one of the zip sliders. When I got home, I cleaned the zip and got rid of as much cack as possible.

I checked today and the zip is stuck solid again. I store my board in the bag, in my garage.

Anyone else had this and know of a solution as I reckon the only way of getting my board out now is with a Stanley Knife.

If you rub a pencil on the zip, it will free it up ! Dont know why this works, but have used it on my Motorcycle leathers !

Yeah, I can see the logic, but I can't move the slider at all. It's completely filled up with this white chiff. It looks like someone's filled the slider with plaster.

How about using WD40 to disolve the gunk build up ??

Just spray it on and leave for a while ??

Warm (fresh) water will also do the same and clean it out... then rub some wax along the zip teeth.. this will slow/stop it happening again.

yeah, tried WD 40 and did clean all the chiff out of the zip.

Didn't wax it though. Presumeably you mean board wax?

Thanks

rinse off you board before you put it into the bag.

white lithium grease will do wonders on the zip, but use it very sparingly or it will attract lots of gunk.

I never thought of the pencil, but graphite is an excellent dry lubricant.

Dr. Rev,
pencil lead works because it contains graphite. Graphite, which is carbon, is a lubricant.
