anyone know the cheapest way to get to the Mentawai island from NZ,
few options available, package deal or organise transfers once in indo?

Hey man, I think your best bet would be to fly to Jakarta from NZ (what city in NZ are you from?) then buy air ticket from Jakarta to Padang, West Sumatra (Jakarta has the most daily flights to Padang). From there you have to go on a 90 mile trip by boat to Mentawai. I'm going up Nias way in a few days via KL.
So that's Sydney to Kuala Lumpur, and then KL - Padang. That's with Malaysian Airlines to KL and Air Asia to Padang
