went down to dingle, kerry with a few mates, 2 of which were experienced surfers who prob should have known better. i was quite excited never having surfed before and was quite eager. we arrived at coumeenal (not sure of spelling) and it was big. figured it had to be big for surfing at the time so didn't think twice about going out in it. we got out back after a struggle and i tried for a few waves but missed them when one of the lads said i was too far back on the board. so i moved a good bit forward for the next wave. as i went for it the wave pitched me forward off the board then held me down for what felt like ages. couldn't tell up from down or what was happening. just as panic was setting in the wave let up and i was standing in knee deep water about 50 meters away from where i started. haven't had as bad a hold down since. did it put me off wanting to learn to surf.... hell no!

faf, what you got against beach breaks? some really good ones over here and i've seen vids of really nice ones in SA. also love my minimal. catch heaps more waves on it. always break it out if its a really clean day and i don't want to miss a thing.
gonna give that reef a go again in the summer if its a bit smaller.

About this time last year i had to pull a close friend, work collegue and kitesurfing buddy out of the sea after he'd drowned whilst trying to reach the beach after losing his kite in the surf.
This is my strongest memory of the sea as there isn't a day goes by where i don't think about it.
