Portugal photos March 1st - 8th

Postby derbyshire surfer » Thu Mar 13, 2008 8:37 pm

Here as promised are some photos from Portugal, mainly from Tonel (Sagres) - not really a secret spot! Also Cape St Vincent, used to be known as 'The End of The World' until some famous explorers set sail from here to discover the world as we know it! Also a photo on the 'flat' day.
Quality is reduced to fit website, but hopefully you get the 'feel' for them. The 'dusky' shot at Tonel there is someone out, if you look just between the peaks gives you an idea of the size from the cliff.

I just got a 1 year pass to point Mugu Air force base. Super Wedge on there.
And no one out. Just in time for summer.

Benefits of a crappy construction job.

Bit of a lame weekend surf-wise, almost flat

Just about do-able on saturday morning, and the sun was out so it wasnt a bad session. Inconsistent sets, 2ft or, and the banks are lovely at the mo. Plus the occasional bigger set thrown in from out of nowhere.

Considering it was so small I still managed to...
Wipe out big stylee.
Drop in on someone and almost got my head taken off (apologies all round despite the fact it was entirely my fault).
Got the set and the wave of the day. 8)

Had a nice pre-final exam surf session today next to the Rock in Morro Bay. 4-6 and somewhat swampy with the 4.5' hightide with a little chop from a north wind. Nice clean sections though, pretty good session until my leash got cut by my fins...time to get a new one. Helped me clear my mind for my calculus exam which i feel i completely destroyed. finished it in 45 minutes including time to go over my work.

been in the water the last two days, After a two week break thanks to illness and onshores, I was chomping at the bit thats for sure!

Kicked off with 2-3ft glass as the winds turned yesterday sooooooooooo good to be back in.
Today was a drop to 1-2ft s the new swell arrives tonight and builds up to the weekend for the PR open should be seeing excellent conditions. hopefully a solid 4-7ft clean judging by current data.

Jumped in at East Strand before the comp started today...

Was 2-3ft and clean but by the avo had died a bit of a death and longs waits. Finals tomorrow and there is some promise of slightly more size as there is more north in the swel but winds are slightly off.

Me comp report will be in the next issue of 360.

[i[Supposedly[/i] a 2+m 15sec swell in today. NewBrighton was dreadfull, but my 'home' break sumner was much better, 4ft or so on the bigger sets, and clean.

I couldn't get out yesterday. I couldn't get out this morning, almost drownt. I got out this afternoon at low tide. Felt very drownish swimming a hard side stroke pulling my canoe, but I got out.

I proceeded to get too intimidated by the very clean but 5-6 footish and very wide and fat waves that were coming in. I floated 14 blocks in 30 minutes, all the way from home to the pier, before going for a wave. I caught two, and ate xxxxx hard, with the 11' board going over my head and me needing air pretty bad. I basically pussed out cause I didn't catch em early enough and dove off mid pop-up.

Got tired of fighting the current trying to push me through the pier, so I came in.

Tomorrow morning at 7AM before I have to leave to Kentucky for my wedding reception, it should be smaller. That will be nice.

Anglesey Today!!

Postby Surfing-Innovation » Sun Apr 27, 2008 5:12 pm

Had Broad to ourselves from 0800 to about 1030 - glassy thigh high fun increasing to over waist high (on the push)!
A few people started to get in the way - errrrrr - I mean come along for the second session - up to chest high and still bordering on clean/glassy up to 1400 when everyone and his dog decided to turn up (and we left)!

Overall - one of the best Anglesey days in many months - and the best bit was that Magic See-Nothing had it with only a couple of stars so it didn't become a kook magnet till later on!! (have to say the longboarder I shared many waves with was cool though - more than happy to share waves with him anyday!!)

:D
