foot positioning

Postby O_Danny_Boy » Tue Mar 18, 2008 10:21 am

for the first time ever i got my back foot right over the fins, right on the pad. i found if made a massive difference in my bottom turn-a lot more fluid and snappier as opposed to where my foot normally is just in front of the tail pad which results in a sort of jerky turn.

i know theres a way to pop up by putting your back leg up first, the jack knife method but i think i would have serious problems with popping up like that on bigger days.....it just seems so slow

ne one got any suggestions to help pop up and plant your back foot over the fins each time?

it's just practice really. if you want a fast pop up you need to practice getting your feet in the right position. you normally getting quite far forward on your board? the other way isn't worth it, just practice the fast popup and you'll be much better off than doing a slow one

you can sometimes get away with poor positioning. im sure i miss my pad all the time but surf ok. it just makes it seem even better when youg et everything right and have an awesome wave.

What kind of board do you ride, O_Danny_Boy? I'm on a 7'2'' mini-mal and I'm finding it almost impossible to surf with my back foot right over the fins. I usually stand further towards the middle and find that as the wave slows down I need to get even further to the front to keep going...

Ok, fair enough. Sorry to butt into your topic, I guess my remark wasn't very relevant in this case.
