only partially agree with you, because I believe it depends on the steepness of the wave; if the wave on break isn't that steep then shift your weight forward, if the break is very steep shift the weight to the back to get the balance right then shift your weight forward to descend the break.

this is because most groms put their back foot up first, push up then bring their front foot under their chest. bringing the back foot up first enables you to use it to push up and place your front foot under your chest faster...if you get what i mean. thats the way most surfing instructors teach beginners. trust me...i should know! theres either that pop up method or the push-up-then-place-your-feet-on which more experienced surfers use.

When in the water waiting for waves, practise your popups, it you can popup and stay on your board for a few secounds then you'll be fine o a wave, you just have to get used to your new board.

what i do is paddle as hard as i can, going down sideways, towards the way i want to go, once i feel that the board is going by itself, i do a quick push up, slide my feet onto the board and just ride away, start pumping to get speed and just have fun...

This way when you stand up and lean forward for the drop in you are already going across the face. Especially helpful when the waves are really fast.

hmmm... think that could be the problem why i get nasty nose dives, because i always have my board face the beach... had a very nasty one 3 days ago that pull my hamstring and still hurts right now

well if your a better surfer its better to drop in going towards te beach and making a wide bottom turn.
