The psychology/sociology of "localism"

from my experience in seeing localism, its usually the kooks who tend to be the ones who act the part of being the local asshole. not that they suck at surfing, but they're just not as good as they talk it. the guys i've seen that rip are usually the quieter ones. i think this tends to be true for any sport, it was real similar to my skating days back then also.

random thing but some mentioned 'owning' the sea, did you know that from the high water mark to 200nm out is more legally protected that inland, in the UK anyway. unfortunatly there is sod all to marshall this, so its a kinda pointless thing in some respects!

anyway, iv never had a problem with localism, but then usually go somethere that is either deserted or packed it seems, never had the inbetween bit
