yeah just reading a surf book in the local surf shop (there to exspensive cant afford them) and i read about that if you have a slash as you do when your out for ages, that sharks can sense it a mile away and they can go past others in the water and go straight to the person who pissed, and eat them if they are hungry! sorry to bring the shark subject again on this site im just scared!!! thats always my highlight to piss in my wetsuit now i cant do that anymore!

Most of us surf on shore breaks where the big one's like Jaws can't really come. Not to bring this up again either but your odds are worse than the lottery. I think we're okay. :D

The whole shark attack thing is vastly overrated...

Any problems there already are and because of the tourist boats chumming that water. The then associate humans with food and come closer to shore.

Why? So what if a shark smells your pee? Do fish pee in the water? Sharks will only attack you because it associates you with food and a sharks normal diet doesn't drink lager and then go for a surf. A shark will probably go for you in your wetsuit because you look like a seal, not because you just leaked in it.

Papa is right - chumming, loss of normal shark's normal diet through over-fishing, surfing like a kook, etc is why sharks attack people occasionally, not because they "smell like wee-wee".

Sry to burst your bubble Millencolin man...... but i know a bit about sharks, and great whites, (second largest shark in the world), hunt for food in shallow-average depth surfbreaks..... mainly because their main food source which is seals, frollik around those types of areas.
And to answer the topic question, its true that sharks are attracted by the pressence of urine, mainly because when an animal (like a seal) is in distress, they urinate.
Its been said that some sharks have swam through a large crowd of surfers just to get to ONE surfer who pissed in his wetsuit.

However, the odds of that happening is like winning the lottery... (at bondi that is =D ) id be more worried about getting a bladder infection from cutting off mid-piss when a good set comes through.. hehehe

Pissing in your wetsuit is one of lifes simple pleasures. It affects no-one, it feels good, warms your tummy & relieves your bladder. It is a natural by-product of being immursed in cold water for longer than normal time periods...
I'll bet the dangers associated with holding it in un-necessarily (bladder infections) are far greater to yourself than any potential sharks ability to smell it. God only knows what sharks can smell...

Why, I bet the pong in the water from your armpit deodorant breaking down, aftershave, hair gel, sun-screen and the various chemicals inherent in your boardies, wetsuits, board wax...you name it team, are as strong in water as piss.

I respectfully suggest plonker who doesn't piss in the water because of a fear of sharks gets a grip, goes & takes up chess or just plain pisses (pun intended) off....
