surfboard advice please!

Postby rich » Wed Nov 03, 2004 12:34 pm

Hey,
I am not exactly a beginner surfer but am not very good either, I've been surfing for a couple of years but usually only a couple of times a month due to living a fair way away from the sea, except during the summer when i usually get away for a week or so (this is how i learned, in seignosse).
I surf a 7'3 bic but want to get my first 'proper' board and i need advice! I'm thinking a fairly meaty short board or a fun board of about 7'. Maybe a small mini mal though. However money is short so i'm probably gonna be looking second hand. What i would be really grateful for is some advice as to particular makes or shapers that i should be lookng for in ads and shops which would be good for surfing the british waves. Should it be a british board or can foreign ones still be suitable for the british surf?

Any other pearls of wisdoom would be greatly appreciated!

take it easy,
rich

by the way i'm a pretty small (5'7, 60kg) 22 year old if that effects the type of board that would be best...
cheers

From what you say it may well be worth going shorter than 7'

something to chalange you and in theory it will push you a little more thus advancing you.

Is it likly that you will get out more often? if so then I would recomen you going for s more chalaning size.

Where are you living? with reguards to local sellers near you.

id go with a 6'6 shortboard if you want to get short, or mabye a 6'2 fish if your planning onbeing in smaller waves.
if you want a funboard then get a funboard.

hey, cheers for the advice so far!
i live in luton, totally landlocked so only get to go surfing on weekend trips. when i do go its usually to woolocombe or newquay, and most of the shops i'd be looking in are in those places. in fact i'm almost definitley going down this weekend.
