Problems turning board around

Postby JupiterSurfer » Tue Jan 29, 2008 3:54 pm

I am having trouble turning my board around from facing the oncoming waves into the paddling position. I try to whirl my feet and lean into the direction I'm trying to go but still having trouble. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Slide back on your board bringing the nose of the board into the air. This will make it a lot easier to rotate.

^ pulling board up is the right advise.

A good way is to grab the front of the board with one hand. Pull it toward you, as the tail begins to sink use your other hand to dig in the water and start the turn. combine the leg twirls to complete the 180.
Important.....as you come around force the tail under to spring load your take off. the board pushing out will help you catch more waves

Or face sideways a bit, about 1/4 way round, as the wave picks up turn your torso towards shore. Your hips should follow, drop down and paddle.

I did get three staight days of 2 hour sessions each. I'm in south florida and the swell wasn't as big as up north, which is ok by me as I'm still a groveler.
