How much is my board worth? More than a dollar??

Postby Scott Anderson » Mon Oct 18, 2004 10:12 am

I recieved a board from a girl that was about to throw it away in the dumpster (!!!!!). I am just getting into surfing so I was interested in this really dirty, scummy board more because it was really long than anything (my board is a short board). Anyways, she said she got it in Fiji, and it was called something like "the dollar board" and was an "original Hobie" or something like that. All I can really be sure of is that she said it was called a "dollar board" and that it was made by Hobie. The fin is really fat the same color/lamination as the rest of the board, and the board seems to be 9 or so feet and quite heavy compard to a new board. Its really dirty on top so I haven't been able to find any names or identification. Do you know what kind of board this could be? Have you heard of a "dollar board" before and know what the history of the board could be? Do I have a piece of surfing history on my hands? Who wants it and how much would you pay?

well... if it was being thrown in a dumpster by someone who knew the history... its prolly not that rare valuable past time surfing treasure... but i cant tell you for sure, because i have never heard of that kind of board....

does it work well? where are you located? i just moved out to huntington beach and need a cheap board for guests, etc...

The girl that put it in the dump also threw away a lot of clothes and shoes. I usually don't dumpster dive but under these circumstances I'd think anyone would have a change of heart. The $500 worth of stuff I've (my g/f mostly) sold of hers ($300 worth of shoes, $100 to the used clothes store, $100+ on ebay) so far plus all the mostly new clothes that were kept (all of which should have atleast gone to goodwill) makes me think that the board may be legit - perhaps an original Hobie (no markings, fin in tact, balsa wood). I'm trying to get some pictures out to surfshop people. She said she got it from Fiji.
