Best surfcamp in... California / France / Portugal / ??

Postby vbf » Fri Jan 18, 2008 3:52 pm

Hi surfers,

I'm planning on going on a surfcamp for a week or something next summer, and I need a little help from you guys;
Does anyone know of any good surf camps in California, France or Portugal?
I'm a novice sixteen y.o. boy.
The best thing would be a camp with nice waves and lots of things to do when not surfing (i guess that would be in California? I've been there before and it was awesome)

Feel free to recommend camps situated elsewhere.

Thanks.

I think Corky Carroll runs one out of Huntington beach, but I don't know if it's an all inclusive camp or just a day camp. He writes for the local paper on all things surfing as well having his own line of boards. Just do a search for hunting beach surf camps. I am pretty sure there are also camps out of San Diego, it's just the one I know caters to women, but they do have an offshoot for youth it's in La Jolla.

Thank you, I sent an email to the surfcamp asking if it was all inclusive or not. Anyway it looks good this one too.

I heard from many friends that in the Algarve area in Portugal is probably your best choice, i've been to Porto, but didn't have the fun that i was hoping for...
In france you got good waves, a bit expensive though, i can recommend a really cheap place in Spain, just a few hours drive from france, in Loredo - Cantabria a youth hostel, for 6€(six euros) a night, just for the bed, shared mixed dorm! it's got a kitchen, a fridge so anyone can use it and its less than 100 yards from the beach, right there you have a surfschool and rentals, it's a very long beach, beachbreak waves, but on the far right side there's a good wave coming from an island that's next to the beach, pretty long wave, you got a minimart nearby to buy your own stuff, can't get cheaper than that in europe man!! also in the Bilbao area and Zarautz (basque country) you got good surf and these youth hostels, runnning for about 16€ night, just google up youth hostels, and see for your self, they're in france as well, but never stayed in one, i've surfed there but just drove from bilbao, it's about a 2 hour drive.
