Am in Orlando, Florida, from northern California presently. Whenever here, I ALWAYS go to Cocoa Beach. The place is very likeable for many reasons and the waves are pretty consistent. There was a heavy wind this afternoon at low tide that was really messing the waves up. They were chaotic, but I went out anyway. Went out without wetsuit, too, even though the water was about 65F (18C). Our water in northern California is about 52F (11C), so I figured I could take it for an hour or so without a suit. It was wonderful to surf without a wetsuit and even though the surf was lousy, it was still great to be in the water. I was the only one I could see up and down the beach in the water. Most people on the beach had heavy jackets on.
I got a couple of "good" rides. Also got a few that weren't so good. Wore my perscription Silverfish sunglasses. They didn't fog at all and I didn't put Rain X on them like I do at home. I guess it wasn't cold enough for them to fog. That was very nice.
Afterward, I bought a ton of clothing and rash guards at Ron Jons and Cocoa Beach Surf Company. Stuff cost less here than in California. I brought a half empty suit case in preparation for this. I also got lots of surf and beach related stickers and trinkets for the kids of my employees.
Tomorrow I'm going to look for manatees. These critters are so loveable! Spent yesterday at the Kennedy Space Center (again). They've got full scale models of parts of the future space station there. You can walk through them. Pretty interesting and NASA expects to have this new station built in space in 25 years. Wild because I remember the Gemini, Mercury and Apollo missions very well. (Now you know I'm not a young dude!)
I hope some of you surfers out there also had fun today.
