have you got the 500mm yet :D

The distance from the surfer varies depending on which beach I'm shooting, those pics were probably 600 - 800 yds.

Not yet I bought it in the US as it's half the price of the UK, but I'm there to collect it on Saturday :D

On the VAT point yes you are correct and import duty I think.
There are HK sellers on e-bay who say if it happens they will pay for it. I've not tried them though.
I'm not sure what % do get stopped on arrival.

My 350d does a great job for what I use it for, my advice don't try and cut too many corners on lenses you will only regret it. Be clear what you want to use it and buy accordingly.

long_man and RJD your photos rock!!! Some inspiration for me! Just got my 55-200mm VR DX fairly recently. Using the Nikon D-50, I'll post some when I'm happy with them, look a bit emabarassing compared to ones you've taken lol!!

Photo is the Riwaka river resurgence after being undere the Takaka hills for 4K, its 30min north of Motueka near the top of New Zealands South island.

Was 5 min from where we were staying, 10min walk, I took 3 hours lol - some of the shots were 1min +

I started to get more into photography this year so I went and got myself a Canon Rebel XTi. The lenses I have at this point are the Canon 75-300mm and the 18-55mm that came with the camera. Haven't had a chance to get more for some time. But here are some of my pics, some surf pics in there. Let me know what you all think.

I picked up my new 6'1 fish on Thursday, went to Newcastle to get it. On the way back I stopped at Saltburn, unfortunately there was no surf but I had my camera so tried a few different coastal shots. First effort at 'blurring' the sea etc. The overall blue effect was from the sun going down.

This was just an experiment really, just zoomed in whilst using the tripod. A bit different, kind of like Dr. Who effect lol!

Hi long_man, cheers for the comment. They are the first with my 55-200mm Vr lens. Got some 'non' sea/surfing shots but I'm planning on taking my camera more when I go for a surf. Instead of being gutted for no waves I can console myself a little by taking photos lol!

From a recent trip to the San Diego Zoo, we got to see the baby Panda, but the pictures aren't as good as the panda was in the back of the enclosure. This is either the sister or dad I can't remember which. People would walk by wondering where the animal in that enclosure was, had to say "look up" to a couple of people.
