Damn, the surf's too big for me to go out on open beaches, and not big enough for the Bay surf to be working...

This is where it breaks, and you can see where the waves stand up, but it's just not happening.

I'm hoping the swell will turn more east for the weekend.

i was surfing down @ bondi yesterday about 5pm, the waves are just way too crazy, more than 3 times of my height, somehow i did survived and get back on the beach, could barely walk back home after that... not to mention it was all uphill on the way back...

I got some good waves today.. First surf since the NYE celebrations...and my recovery. We surfed the lefts off the point at City beach. A hell paddle out but for the big lefts, it was worth it. Got me so pumped!
The Sharks are still out too, and a bit of a worry. We had another today at Northbeach.
Ive closed the business for the week, sent staff home.. Im out there in the morning. Will try and get some more pics tomorrow.

Ha... "Just gotta do it"
The secret is to not die! Thats all.

Id actually prefer it to be about 3-4ft. Big wave is a rush but the shred is such a high...

Its only getting bigger!

Short Forecast: E swell remains constant on Thursday at three to five feet as winds swing SE. Strong rising trend on Friday and moderate ESE winds, building to a peak of 8 – 10ft on Saturday with strong ESE winds going light NNE in the afternoon.

!@#$ it was really rubbish down @ the southern end, the middle got the xxxxx sand bank which can be a bitch when get wipe out by a 5ft wave... my board almost hit my temple :S then after a while the current just takes me back to the southern end ><

Still need to learn how to tackle 3-4ft ones, it's so hard because the wave just picks me up to the tip of the break so fast that I need to bail, otherwise I'll tip forward and nose dive in midair :S
I'm thinking might be because the board is too buoyant for me...

I've been paddling my arse off on my 6'0" x 18&1/2" this week, talk about steep take offs  I should have used my 6'4" but in all that surface chop I find it's a bit too wide. The bonus with the 6'0 is duck diving nice and deep when the clean up set hits.

I'm thinking of trading in the 5'11" fish for a semi-gun to tackle Saturday's swell as the 6'4" x 19" isn't going to cut it I reckon. I'm heading for Indo in April so I'll need the semi-gun for that too. Thinking along the lines of 6'8" x 18&1/2" rounded pin.

Jimi, if Port Hacking will start firing then I'd love to see shots of that. My mate was talking to some fishos down there and they say they wouldn't surf there as there are lots of bulls in the water!

crepuscular sounds like you need to paddle much harder, if you're in that position then you're not matching the speed of the wave.

I have been talking to some people down in Indo about what board lengths they would recomend to take down there and the biggest they advised for an experienced surfer was a 6'6" step up. But told me that my 6'4" and 6'2" would work fine for general purpose riding while down there. Just thought I would share the info.

Thanks I'll consider the advice. I'm going to get a few shapers to quote me on some measures. I'm going to take 3 boards, the 6'0 is a definitely coming but I've not decided what else will be or what I'll buy for it. I'm thinking a backup for the 6'0 that is ever so slightly bigger and a semi gun.
