I forgot to mention that when still prone when accelerating, I use my hands and body weight to steer into the clean face so I don't end up too deep in the white water where you cannot make the wave anymore. Also sometimes it is still possible to do a jump popup but other times this just feels impossible (why? Maybe the legs dragging at speed in the water?) to do so I then resort to the chicken wing as only(?) way to get up.
I hate doing the chicken wing popup because it puts such a big strain on my groin, an old and still sensitive injury. Now I think of it, that injury was caused by surfing my old Dominator when I was often propelled still prone and had to do a chicken wing..
