I'm almost finished with Driver's Ed, since its mandatory if your under the age of 18, (I'm 17), and I was wondering if anyone made up a lot of their hours? I do practice once and a while, but I really want to start driving, so is it ok to fake some hours here and there? You need around 40 day and 10 night hours in Hawaii.

I just need to practice parallel parking... Any tips?

Set up a couple of trash cans to park between...that way when you bump one there won't be any damage. Parallel parking is easier backing in, I pull my car about 3/4 of the way past front the car, slap it in rev and crank the wheel. Angle so your back tire is about to hit the curb at the same time you clear your front bumper. Crank you front end in and wallah you are parked.
Just like surf...practice practice practice.

Driving requires experience, knowledge does nothing but only tells you to obey the law. Keep driving till you get the feel, and you'll feel that driving is easy as sh1t lol.

just practise. get to know your car and the turning limits. i had a big driveway and just set up some small poles that we use to mark off the sides of our driveway when it snows so we know where to plow. just keep doing it and doing it. it helps if you can find somewhere that has a crub that is sloped rather than a full on crub. so then if you hit it, you just kind of roll up onto it, and not gash up your wheel. to get our license we had to have x amount of hours with a parent/guardian. nobody ever kept track of their hours, and my mom just signed off on the thing

I think I got my license at 16 1/2 in Hawaii like 20 some years ago. The good thing about hawaii is that the speed limit is 55. The bad news is that NO ONE KNOWS HOW TO FRIGGING DRIVE in Hawaii!!

People in Hawaii just don't have much "real world" driving experience. Its a 80 mile rock in the middle of the ocean, and no one is concerned about getting anywhere ontime.

In the UK you have to take a theory test and then a practical examination.

just like in Brazil. besides, before the theory test, you have to take some theory classes too.

its true. im on the mainland now and im too scared to drive with the ice, fast highways, im scared ill take a wrong turn and end up in canada.

oh, no. i guess i should have clarified. to get your permit, in pennsylvania, you had to be 16 (18 now i believe). then take a brief test. like what signs mean what. you had to have your permit for at least 6 months and get the required driving time. then you had a test with someone from penndot who sat in the car with you as you parallel parked, and drive a loop around whereever the drivers licensing centre was. then until you're 18, you have an 11 pm curfew, and supposed to have a limit of under 18 occupants, i think. but neither was really enforced. if you got pulled over after 11 pm, it was tacked on, but nobody i knew got pulled over for just driving after 11.

my practical test was a joke. first, it got pushed back about 2 weeks because of heavy snow. then when it came time for my parallel parking, the spot they have marked off at the centre was where they plowed all the snow, so there was a giant snowbank on the side. when i had parallel parked i was about 2 feet away from where the crub was, but there was also a giant wall of snow 2 feet deep, so there was nothing i could do. i got into the space without even having to go forward. the instructor just looked at me and was like, 'well you got in the space without having to go forward, i take it you know what you're doing.' passed no problem. i knew a few girls who just cried when they didn't do it right and got the license anyways.....and a few girls who have gotten out of tickets that way as well

Great tip! I never would have thought to use trash cans. It is alot better than using cars and end up damaging the vehicles. I will have to use that with my grandson. He is starting driver's education in the summer.

And yes Practice practice, dont short change yourself and write down hours that you did not do. That might be the easy way out but it's not the right way.
