Yes you can, I've seen all sorts out surfing.

Its HARD work and what to get depends on if those 18stones are muscle/height or lard.

But whatever your going to need a big board to float you, how long/wide/thick depends on the point above.

Yep.

I'm thinking 10' x 23" x 3.5" here :D

Do yourself a favour and don't start below 9'6" if you are that big.

I hope that's all muscle or you are really gonna get sore

Go 12 feet long or longer, by 27 to 32 inches wide, and 3.5 inches inches thick remember that more body and board weight means more power, more speed, and better control (all else being equal). A light board is not a good idea, you will want weight, get the heaviest glassing job you can ( 3 layers 6 ounce at least).

We have carried boards up to 14 feet long on top of cars and vans: A Hilman Super Minx, Hillman Hunter station wagon, 1971 Dodge Ambulance, 1957 Dodge Kingsway campervan conversion, customised 1973 CF bedford van with 6 cylinder holden motor, and now a 33ft Bedford schoolbus with a massive row of heavy steel roofracks. . . usually though we slide the boards inside te bus and tie them down to the tops of the bus seats. Here's a video showing a 17 footer being loaded up:
