What hours qualify as dawn patrol?

Postby ginat » Fri Feb 23, 2007 8:55 pm

Okay, what hours qualify as dawn patrol? I've been wondering what qualifies. I'm an early riser and a particularly early riser when I go east to California's time zone so I've been wondering how early people go out there and the advantages of going earlier. Thanks to all!

dawn patrol hours are around 545ish-8am, i heard some people even go earlier, pre-dawn patrol hehe the earliest i went out was probably around 7ish, i have a hard time getting up..advatages are less people, no winds; disadvantages are high tide, freezing water :)

I can totally do 5:45 in California since it is like 7:45 to me back home and my dogs have me trained to get up at 5:30-6:00 normally at home to let them out. I still need to stay out of people's way so early is probably a good idea. Still putting all the pieces together so thanks for responding!

Ya know i actually find dawn patrol at around 7-9 to be packed on some days. The best times are around 5:00-6:30 or at around 10-11 when dawn patrol surfers are done. (this does not apply to summer surf and i cant comment on other breaks other than the most southern san diego ones :? )

Entering the water before the sunrise is a true yawn patrol anything else is just an early one.

You should be paddling out in the pre-dawn. Watching the sun come up from the lineup is priceless.

Yep. Dawn is dawn. First light. Drive out when it still feels like night time, park, then when there's enough light to see start futzing with your wetsuit while you're checking where to paddle out.

Futzing is a funny yet descriptive word, no? From your reply I know exactly what to do now! Thanks!
