Ocean Green

Has anyone heard of the Ocean Green company, with its environmentally friendly surfboards? Has anyone ever used one of these before if so? I just read about them in Surfer Magazine's most recent issue. The Eco-Foils sound cool...

Check out their website, Oceangreen.org. They're trying to make surfboards out of environmentally friendly materials. For instance instead of a foam core, they use hollowed balsa. Instead of epoxy or fiberglass they use hemp cloth. It's a very interesting concept, I think. It's a surf company based in Cornwall, UK.

Their 6'8" Thruster is about 1,129 USD when converting its 599 British pound pricetag.

600 is about 1200 in U.S. dollars. i can usually find a nice epoxy that i like for 350. id rather just spend more time supporting recycling to be more ecofriendly.

I'm probably not investing in one either. Personally I'm happy with my 7'2" funboard and will probably look for a good shortboard to upgrade to in a year on my local shop's used rack.

Think about it. First they're using materials that are pricier than foam and fiberglass/epoxy then they've gotta ship it here to the US for customers who don't live in the UK. That's why it's pricey.

.. nice one bro  theres a Cheech & Chong come back film for sure hehehe

hmmm .. an eco - friendly board ! .. nice idea and obviously im loving the use of hemp but i gotta say most guyz and gurlz dont throw away any kind of board as their normally kept for old-times sake or passed on to a bro or sis to use ..its a nice idea though ..

hemp is the strongest natural fibre known to man so i guess it would be pretty durable but it sounds to me that its more of a 'niche finding product' than anything sustainable 8)

" Now find me a stick thats coated in Hemp resins and im there lmao

Its not that the boards are built, broken and then thrown away thats the problem so much as the building is flippin' toxic!

Hence clark foam shutting down (unless you believe the other conspiracy theories) as they were getting hassled by the environmental police.

Boardmaking will have to go more environmentally friendly in the long run, thats for sure.
