Board type waikiki

In july, august next year I’m going to waikiki beach to surf. I have a board question. Can you surf a 7,6/53l there?

Have you looked at the great number of breaks there that Waikikichan has posted in reply to your other posts?
There are varied skill levels at each break, some are definitely learner and children breaks.
You will need to be aware of surfing etiquette at any break and respect the locals, this will vary greatly from many other surf areas around the world.
Where is your home break or other spots you have surfed? Outside the learners‘ break you will be among a highly competitive and skilled crowd

NO, you as an “intermediate”, will be totally dominated by others on longboards.

You will have to take off more inside of those lined up at the peak. You will be in their way. You will get run over, yelled at, and told to go in.

That said, if you think you can out paddle and out maneuver local surfers who have surf Waikiki all their life on 9, 10 and 11 foot boards ( which you haven’t been to, know the local etiquette/ rules, how the wind, tide and reef affect the wave ) then go for it.

Btw, if you try surfing Queens, the locals will tell you to go to Canoes if you Kook out or drop in. When you do end up in Canoes ( where your sister should be learning at ), make sure to move out of the way for the outrigger canoes. That why you “never turn your back on the ocean”.

Question: are you planning to buy a new 7’6 board and bring it on the airplane to Oahu ?

I surfed Waikiki in the 70's. Undoubtedly it has changed since then but there was a lot of small breaks all over Waikiki. There used to be a map of them all available online, It is now only available from a paying site (last I checked). I used to surf with a 7 foot board (single glassed in fin) which used to be called a shortboard back then. I used to surf mostly at breaks called Threes or Fours named after the channel markers closest to them. I always thought of myself as an intermediate surfer but it didn't really matter to me how I ranked in comparison to others. I had fun. I hope you enjoy your time there but be respectful of the other surfers. It will make it all the better for you.
