You get a little surf that way with a drive, you can head south to the south coast like Brighton or Bmouth, or head south east to joss bay, or your other option is heading up past Norwich to the beachies (I have never been, this is just from the top of my head and second hand knowledge, with a few scans of my surf guide library to find the eastern spots!). Can you drive? Where you live you cannot just simply turn up at a beach, so start watching the forecast and if a good day of surf lines up with a day or few days you are free then pull the trigger and head down, you will learn in time how to forecast surf. Look at magicseaweed.com to start with, because it will show you clearly if there is any surf (I'm assuming you wont need to worry about how accurate it is yet!). But in terms of getting into surfing, go for it! The UK surf scene has its issues, but you will make great friends, great moments and if you are lucky some great waves on the way

. I don't know any Essex surfers personally, but I assume they exist (there is too many surfers in the UK for them not to exist!), so get out there and surf! Good luck!
