It’s true ... new board 5’8” Mick Fanning Softboard Catfish.
Now to stand up on the River wave..... no paddling no no pop up , just stand and riding, what could go wrong.

Safety equipment , black Gath helmet, rocks in head and rocks in river bed.
Waist belt leash attachment , safer than leg leash, wet suit bounce off rocks better.
Age pension, paid up!

This is not me but shows the situation i spent most of my time doing notice the expression on the guy’s face

Today so much rain has fallen the wave is 3 meters under water!
So being there yesterday worked out well, it was members’ day i had my new board , first time attempting the wave every wave meant i was washed down stream, but there is some evidence I will be upstanding again!

So harder than normal waves? Or just needed different approach and style?

Totally different approach needed, water is moving down stream surfing is facing upstream , you are below the level of approaching water, wave is constant but can vary in flow, You don’t paddle in. you push off from the side while standing, the experts acid drop in, jump in and onto their boards.
you have to maintain a gravitational point on the wave too high and you are washed down stream and you swim or paddle to shore.

probably about 5 surfs needed to get it working for me!

but no pop up is a bonus!
