Balance Board vs Carver

Inertia lauds the use of balance boards for folks who do not have the time to surf regularly. I prefer to skate because it's more fun. I look forward to slaloming hills nearly as much as riding waves, and think of balance boarding as a workout like swimming laps in a pool.

What do you think?

I think involvement in other sports that you enjoy help because you are staying fit getting some exercise even if it doesn't directly help your surfing. I doubt either of those exercises aid your surfing even though lots of people claim it does. If it works out muscles you do during surfing then that might help particularly weak leg muscles might be helped by doing either of those exercises. I surf junk waves for exercise. I enjoy it. Other stuff I do to stay in shape not so much enjoyment but fun to get out with the wife and the dog. If you need to work on your balance then doing things that train your balance is good. That helps your balance and not your surfing directly. Nothing really helps your surfing other than surfing so finding something you enjoy is the way to go. You aren't going to learn to surf without surfing.
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

Let's see someone on a Balance Board, get leaned way over and drag (touch ) their hand on the ground.
Let's see someone practice their Round House cutbacks on a Balance Board.

(watch from 3:22)
Balance Boards are great, don't get me wrong. It's another training tool that's great inside the house. But I rather ride my Carver ( if it's not raining like today ).

I have both; balance board is good for keeping muscles toned.....you can almost feel all the small muscles working while keeping balance......not a surfing simulator at all but you can do things on it that I think make for a better surfer in that you're toning the heck out of your legs and it DOES develop a feel awareness in the soles of your feef that can help with surfing.

Try not to do it with a beer in your hand......
