Excellent surf today... but no surfing for me

Postby drowningbitbybit » Sun Jan 24, 2016 8:46 pm

It's an unofficial holiday long-weekend in Oz today, with Australia Day on Tuesday, and so most of the country has taken the day off ... and gone for a surf....

This picture from the local news was taken yesterday (Sunday). Today the surf is even better - 5ft glassy perfection... and the crowds were worse than that at 5am. :bang:

It's too straight for the beachies so there is simply no quiet spot on the Coast at all. So I won't be surfing today.

...But this swell is forecast to stick around all week and the kids finally go back to school on Wednesday after the long long summer break. Bring it on!

You'll probably find me surfing, but if not, I'll probably be in the photography studio

Nice story, I feel a little less frustrated by the Bali crowds now :)

don't know what you are complaining about....10 sec period, so 6 people can catch a wave every minute, you can get at least 3 waves per 2 hours. :D

(actually, in those conditions its probably 5 people per wave, so you can easily get 6 or 7 waves - just need to share a bit)

Was reading something recently where a guy was surfing a crowded break and in and out the other surfers when someone else long leg rope caught around his fin... instant stop. So you don't have to avoid just the surfer, you have to add another couple of feet to avoid their leggie (especially those pesky longboarders)

If I honestly thought I could get 3 waves out there today, I might have been tempted...
