Thoughts on "Tom Curren Rollerskates To Warm Up For A Surf"

Postby waikikikichan » Thu Aug 20, 2015 1:42 am

Surfing Magazine had an article "Tom Curren Rollerskates To Warm Up For A Surf". His garb looks exactly like all the geezers kooks I see with their arms straight up to the sky like they're hanging ten except they're 3 feet away from the nose. The first photo of him at the apex of his bottom turn is so sick. Just like a short track speed skater just skimming over the ice.

From what I can understand about warming up for surfing it should be something that involves your arms because they do the bulk of the work......but hey it's Tom Curren so he must be doing something right
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

Hula hoop would probably work too....

I read that one of the tour guys uses a jump rope.....geezer like me and considering ambient temperatures the walk from the parking to the beach down 100+ stairs at some spots is enough....other places like Canggu or Seminyak I do a little more for stretching but save the aerobic exercise for the paddle out....first paddle is always the hardest; takes me about a half hour to 45min to settle into the sesh and then I get the second wind that kicks in and I'm at full energy......I'm impressed OMS with your half hour sesh's....sometimes takes me that long just to paddle out, sort out where to catch the wave and to start to feel alive......

I rode my surf skate board a couple of times prior to going out.....stopped though because I'd rather spend my time surfing when it is surfing time..... :)

I stretch and do regular exercises when I am not surfing so I am ready to go. I can paddle 600 yards in 7 minutes if I am in prime shape on my 8 foot fungun. I don't need to warm up, I warm up while I paddle out.
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

I dunno about warm up exercises, but can report Tom Curren's home and my home are about 1 mile apart here in Santa Barbara. So, I see him around a little bit.
