mate, thats a great blog. I really like the use of photos and some of the entries are particularly worthwhile for everyone, not just longboarders eg the one about weighting for turns (14 May). Havent read all the way through but so far definitely time well spent

Where are you in Japan? I lived there many years ago, in Tokyo, but spent most of my holidays at Shimoda. Cant remember many (any?) surfers back then; from your photos it seems that its really taken off. Your photo of the guys with their shortboards in the 4inch waves was pretty funny

Dragging a question across from another thread, why dont you like nose concaves? One of my boards has one, I'm still not quite sure whether I should have left it in (the shaper had it as a standard feature) or not.

DTC - thanks for the nice comments. I live near Tokyo Tower so about 1 1/2 by car to Shonan ( parking is $7 for 1 hour in the summer ) and 2 1/2 to Chiba ( toll roads is $30 one way ) The photos are from Mr. Saikai's website called STARBOARD http://starb.on.coocan.jp/. He shoots Kugenuma beach ( sometimes Kamakura ) everyday twice a day.

To answer your question why I hate Nose Concave, is it creates an air bubble to support you while on the nose BUT it also makes the board harder to paddle. Concave helps lock in the nose , but I like the nose to slide around a bit. If you put concave make it very very slight, not those big tear drop outlined types. If you are on the heavy side it's more useful, but if you are feather weight, it just bucks you off. It is more important to LOCK the tail with the rail, than rely on a big fin or big nose , or deep concave. On 1-16-2014 I write about the secret to noseriding.

Thanks for checking my blog.

Nice blog. Hey it's good to have a surf instructor here to help. With pictures better yet since it is so difficult to tell someone what to do much easier to show them.
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.
