How do you guys get by on flat days?

Postby Katsura » Wed Jul 27, 2011 6:52 am

DOH day today @ Sunshine coast - if you are a smallish lobster that is. And the outlook for the rest of the week looks worse.
I'm getting depressed, also don't have any money or time to travel to other spots.
Need something to get over this depression. Surfing is worse than drug, the come down is much harder to endure!
Just curious what do you guys do on flat days and can't go anywhere for a fix?

If it's summer then I generally go body surfing as there is usually just enough swell to do that. I don't do it in winter as going body surfing in a wetsuit seems a bit weird, and you can't lie in the sand afterwards for an hour like in summer. If it's completely flat then sometimes it's a sign to get things done around the house that you keep putting off. :( There's also (heaven forbid it) the SUP for the small days, not my cup of tea.

Most things will cost money but if you invest wisely you can have a lot of fun on one purchase.

Here in Sydney flat days in the summer/spring often have quite a lot of wind so it's an option to get into sailing, kite surfing or wind surfing. I've got a 14' Hobie Cat for days like that. There's also the snorkelling, or, spear-fishing option. Then there's normal fishing, or fishing in a cheap tinny.

First I watch some surf videos on youtube, then grab the iPod and go for a killer run while I mind surf.

I'll still swim in the ocean if by it. If not I try to enjoy my summer days. I also do some tabletop RPGs, spend time with family and friends, and try to enjoy life :)

I usually fish either inshore or offshore when its flat, which is more often than not.

Ive been wondering what to do on flat days or weeks! and decided to have a go at stand up paddle boarding...
I think it will be great fun paddling around seeing bits of the coast you wouldnt normally get to see.

But this new idea is going to have to wait until I can save enough cash to subsidise it!! I didnt realise how how expensive the stand up boards and paddles are!!!

I slalom a LONG skateboard and try not to roll any faster than I can run!

Probably when this thread was started I used to go SUP on flat days. Now I just paddle around on a surfboard to make sure my paddling muscles get a workout.
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.
